Emily The Strange Movie in the Works!

If you're a reader of this blog, or at least a secret leader, you would know that one of our favorite hollywood actress is Chloe Grace Moretz and that's after watching her as Abby in Let Me In and of course, Hit Girl in Kick Ass. And while we have yet to see her as Carrie, Chloe Moretz has been tapped by Universal and Dark Horse Entertainment to play the role of Emily the Strange.

Yes! That cool girl in black with kitty who's all dark and strange. For those who don't know Emily the Strange, you are suckers but then I'm compelled to actually impart some of my strange knowledge about Emily. First of all, she's fictional character created by Rob Reger. And soon enough she became popular under Cosmic Debris, the clothing line founded by artist Rob Reger, Matt Reed and Nathan Carrico. And now, she has become a real franchise that includes clothing, stationery, stickers and accessories.

 Plot:
"Emily the Strange is a goth-looking 13-year old girl who is usually accompanied by her four black cats: Sabbath - the troublemaker, Nee-Chee - the schemer, Miles - the creative, and Mystery, the leader of the group."

What do you think?

Zombies Vs Robots Movie

We really have know idea how this would work but with the zombie genre being pushed by The Walking Dead and the upcoming Zombieland series there may be a future for a futuristic approach to the zombie genre.

When the world is plagued with zombies robots are there to protect the world's last human, an infant girl. The movie is based from the comic book of the same title by Chris Ryall and illustrator Ashley Wood.

Transformers director Michael Bay is attached to the project through his film outfit 'Platinum' but as a producer. I wouldn't want him to direct this anyway but I'm sure he can provide some good futuristic visualizations on the film. If Zombies Vs Robots movie pushes I think it's gonna be worth a try, just like, Warm Bodies or we never know this could rank as the best movies of all time.

Just try to imagine a group of Wall-E's protecting Boo (Monsters Inc) from zombies!

Psycho (1960) Movie Review

Psycho is one of those gems you often hear about if you're looking for a movie with a twist. It's also one of the highest rated horror films and an acclaimed one for being Hitchcock's most memorable if not best. So watching Psycho at present time is a must for cinephiles out there as well as hardcore fans of the horror genre.

But to whether everyone should see it depends highly to the quality of the film considering of course you have an open mind of watching old films and some of your preferences. But to make this simple you can ask us if it's worthwhile. And check out our review of Psycho for the answer!

When things don't go well between a couple or if love is hampered by impractical circumstances, the other half is inclined to go the other way around and fight for love. And that's how our protagonist Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) got her hands to a $40,000 cash she stole driving all the way to California where her lover Sam Loomis (John Gavin) lives.

On her way, she encounters a cop with a harbinger aura but also with a justified police motive. This is when Hitchcock fires off genuinely suspenseful moments that will make you bite your underlip. And you haven't even reached halfway yet. Suddenly, we succumb to paranoia. This the first Hitchcock film we watched and
his direction is really quite fast paced that before we knew it, Marion hits the break and we check-in into the Bates Motel. The script gets in your head too!

Soon after meeting the unusual Norman Bates who was adequately portrayed by Anthony Perkins, Joseph Stefano's writing gets more clever, layered and restrained. And as we near the highlight of the movie,The Shower scene, the music suddenly fades out like how our problems seems to get washed away like dirt when we take a bath. Finally, we see a woman stabbing Marion to the screaming accompaniment of Bernstein's score that will surely freak the hell out of anyone.

First half ends with a very well photographed drowning scene and from a suspenseful first half the script tightens as we are introduced to more characters which are by the way superbly acted by Vera Miles and Martin Balsam despite the latter's brief appearance.

Soon enough, since everything is given and the only mystery that needs some revealing is the most shocking twist in history of film. I'd like to end this review by saying that you need to find it out yourself because the story, performances, almost everything makes up to this totally worthwhile film.

PSYCHO stands from its merits, its standards and the genius of Alfred Hitchock.

Insidious Chapter 2 Movie

The scariest movie that graced the big screen so far is that from the producers of Saw and Paranormal Activity - recently, Sinister. But who can ever get over James Wan (Saw, Dead Silence) future classic Insidious which has sent chills to many. And with the second chapter of Insidious kicking off in production every horror fan out there must be screaming in excitement. I'm not really sure if the sequel is necessary but the material really works in some many scary levels! Insidious Chapter 2 is due out in August.

While we don't have any idea how the second chapter would start because of the cliffhanger if not cliched horror film ending of the first Insidious we can tell that the stars of the first film will return to the sequel. But what about? The children? They'll surely look like they've grown up. It's almost three years since right?

Let's just wait for more updates from the director himself. Meanwhile check the first teaser image of Insidious below!

If you can still remember there was this scene in a house in The Further that showed a family that killed each other. Maybe the teaser image above tells another tale from the house! :-)

Insidious 2 is starring Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey, Patrick Wilson and Ty Simpkins. It is due out on August 2013.

Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak

Legendary Pictures has not yet revealed any plot details for Crimson Peak but Guillermo del Toro is spilling around some essential details of his forthcoming horror movie which he said to be “a Gothic romance with ghosts” over his message boards.

Being eyed as a throwback to horror after the recent and ceaseless production of found-footage films, Crimson Peak is also going to be a “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.” Del Toro said via Deadline.

That's what we have so far for Crimson Peak but it's quite a lot given it's set for a later release date and that is next year! There are reports however that actress Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man) is in talks for the lead role which we know nothing about until Del Toro slips again.

Sinister Movie Review

The problem with American horror films is that they still stick with the tropes they set from ages ago. With their ingenious concepts they could have actually made a horror hit if not a masterpiece by now. It's noteworthy though that every year Hollywood tries to play with these tropes and set them just right into time for an effective scare or build up.

Asian Cinema on the other hand tries to reinvent its own horror wheel by adapting elements from Hollywood which apparently turned out to be quite a mess in the last 3 to 5 years. But Asian Cinema stands still with its plausible production of horror masterpieces that are definitely scarier than most American horror films. Throw in Sinister into a tower of good Asian horror movies and it will definitely get on the bottom. The good news there is that it placed!

Sinister succeeds in multiple levels but failed to raise the scare factor up to a hair-raising phase. It is only middling scary and that's quite commendable after Hollywood's numerous attempt of creating a good horror movie. It's good in my opinion but as what I've said relied too much on the cliches which pushed the movie to the eerie and screaming phases.

It was rather unsettling than scary. A major positive for the film is its stylized transition from the crime videos to the main story. There are legit scares from here and there but are not enough to raise the bar in horror. The Super 8 Films, however, are scarier than the movie as a whole which is actually very predictable. Acting isn't bad but the lighting was or maybe Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) just needed to turn on the lights.

Nevertheless, if you liked Insidious and Derrickson's The Exorcism Emily Rose then I can recommend Sinister but watch it without thinking too much. Well, it does make you think and that's supposedly a good thing but when you end up expecting for something big in the end then I must tell you the twist people liked about this movie is actually just around the corner.

Sinister
Official Movie Poster of Sinister

I have a few other nits for this movie. Acting is quite good in a way that Ethan Hawke got into my nerves for 'opting' not to turn on the lights when the switch is actually on his reach. I'm also annoyed by his unbearable skepticism when he's the only witness to the hauntings. Supporting characters didn't seem so important because like the director's previous film "The Exorcism of Emily Rose", this movie did focused too much on the lead character. They should have the retitled it "The Haunting of the Energy-Saving Ellison Oswalt". I heard some people say this movie is shocking. Well, the only thing that shocked me is that why the hell didn't any of the family members wake up during the loudest moments in the story. While the premise sounds good and original, the whole story suffers from lazy writing.  I also think Sinister the hushing part in the end is way over the top.

Musical score is fantastic and the rotating film and noise of the 8mm film projector adds up to the fantastic atmosphere set by all the gruesome homemade videos which I love. In the end, this movie is frankly passable but it's subtle approach to horror makes it stand out considering Hollywood can never do horror subtly which is evident to most Asian movies. A subtle triumph with decent storyline but a disappointing scary movie!

Chloe Moretz to do Carrie Movie Remake!

A mousy and abused girl with telekinetic powers
gets pushed too far on one special night.
I always get excited to see Chloe Moretz portraying a new character whenever there's news about billing her on upcoming movies. That's why when MGM, Screen Gems and director Kim Peirce have formally offered the role of "Carrie" to Chloe Moretz I got even more excited because this titular classic character will prove Chloe Moretz is a versatile actress.

Although there's a little part of me that says "She's far too pretty to play Carrie!".

If negotiations work out and Chloe nods for the role then she's expected to play Carrie White, a typical shy high school student who had a religious fanatic mother and devastating telepathic powers when she reaches puberty.

Sissy Spacek who first played the character actually got an Oscar nomination with her portrayal. No doubt Chloe would get an Oscar nomination.

Remake from Brian De Palma's classic Carrie and 1974 Stephen King bestseller - If you've got a taste for terror take Carrie to the prom!! Chlore Moretz is the new face of evil in Carrie movie remake.

Upcoming Final Destination Movies

In an interview Actor Tony Todd said that the producers of Final Destination expanded his role. In fact, by the time the producers told him that news, they were actually leaving for Vancouver that they're going to shoot the next two Final Destination movies simultaneously.

Final Destination 6 and 7 Poster. //Credits to Google (Can't find ljnk source)

Well, that sounds exciting! I've always been a fan of the FD film series, and I'm very much excited to see if the two more Final Destination films are going to bewilder us with great twists. The first one was sensational, the second Final Destination was better and the third one became shallow and predictable however a roller coaster ride of deadly chase with death. The fourth Final Destination which was supposed to be the last of the installments went so mad in 3D, and was the worst among the series. Fortunately, there was another Final Destination who made up to what the 4th film didn't have.

Having tied the loose ends from the first movie, I hope the upcoming Final Destination movies would creatively web Death's pattern. Here's looking forward to the next FD installments! Like what they say, save the best for last.Yey. :-)

Insidious 2 Movie Sequel

After watching Insidious, i was really looking forward to James Wan's movie, moreover excited to see if there's going to be a sequel for Insidious. What seems to have the Dead Silence kind of touch, Insidious is perhaps the best haunted house movie I've watched.

No, recycled subplot, the story had a strong grasp on the genre. That's why I've been wanting for official confirmation to whether there's going to be  an Insidious 2 movie or none.

While it would be great to see Dalton's father's story with the creepy old woman in black, meaning I'd love to see the prequel, it would also be nice to see a sequel from a different family. I mean, I'm pretty sure it's not only in their family that had been gifted or cursed with the ability to astral project?

First Look on Ridley Scott’s Upcoming Prometheus

Here's a few words from the legendary film maker Director Ridley Scott who helmed the critically acclaimed "Aliens" —

“We know what the story is…It’s set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney. It’s fundamentally about going out to find out ‘Who the hell was that Space Jockey?’ The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer’s chair … Our man climbs up and says “There’s been an explosion in his chest from the inside out — what was that?” I’m basically explaining who that Space Jockey — we call him the Space Jockey — I’m explaining who the space jockeys were … Prometheus is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life."

Now take a look at the first image teaser of Prometheus movie!

Is that the space jockey??

The Thing Movie 2011 | The Thing Prequel

John Carpenter's The Thing was considered as the most terrifying horror film of all time. It is being featured on nearly every top 10 horror movie list, so a remake or perhaps a reimagination is inevitable for an industry who's been on the bandwagon of doing such.

I honestly didn't have the chance to watch the movie, "The Thing" but based on it's popularity - I dare say the prequel of the Thing, come on theaters this October is going to be as great as the first "The Thing" movie given the technology we now have nowadays.

This 2011, comes, well a flashback, a prequel in its most standard form, The upcoming Prequel of The Thing. The Thing Movie 2011 is starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Jonathan Lloyd Walker, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

The Thing Prequel Plot:
"Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to Antarctica for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up.
When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish."

From the creators of Dawn of the Dead, Thing movie is directed by Matthijs van Heijningen slated on October 14, 2011!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Movie Update!

Here's an update for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Movie!! Elizabeth Bennett's role is still open for anyone who wishes to get her hands on some nasty flesh eating zombies. Actress Emma Stone, who was reported to play the role of Elizabeth passed on the role in 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,' according to Deadline.

However, they didn't quote any source or any reason why Emma passed on Elizabeth Bennett's role. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is the dark, say crazy gory and undead interpretation of the film and novel Pride and Prejudice. This time around zombies will be taking over mortals during the Georgian era.

The movie is listed under development on IMDB but the release date is slated on the year 2013. Yes that's quite a long time from now! Anyway, Mike White will direct Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie. No cast was announced but having Natalie Portman on the producer's chair would somehow make us think she'll do a cameo on this one.

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains.” So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield. Can Elizabeth vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to watch!

DRACULA Movie Remake in Bloody 3D

It's the year of dark,, gothic and bizzarely beautiful movie retakes, re-imagination and remakes! But has anyone ever think of helming the world's most popular horror figure? Yes, I'm talking about that blood thirsty vampire all would be frightened of seeing on their windows at night - Dracula.

The count is back in the remake of Dracula movie. Only this time, director Dario Argento would devote the whole film focusing on the details of the1897 novel written by Bram Stoker. Dracula 3D movie will topbill  Thomas Kretschmann as Dracula and Rutger Hauer as the great Abraham Van Helsing.

Many dracula movies has been introduced but it somehow stopped. Now the vampire genre's is reviving from a sudden death. But a revival without Dracula, the mightiest among vampires would like be the lamest revival of all.

The cast of DRACULA 3D also includes Asia Argento, Marta Gastini and Miguel Angel Silvestre.

You can count me in for Dracula 3D movie! It might be slated for release on December 12, 2012! 12, 12 12 - I believe. That's just when he'll be awake again.
