A movie remake of "Flash Gordon" is in the works and is slated on 2012. The new Flash Gordon movie will be based on a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
Like the first movie, the story follows a football player and his friends travel to the planet Mongo and find themselves fighting the tyrant, Ming the Merciless, to save Earth.
However, Director Breck Eisner wants something new to the film and he said in an interview

"The thing about FLASH is, you’ve got to throw away the 80s version of it. I want it to be intense, aggressive, gritty and real. For me it’s about reinventing FLASH – we’re still staying true to the adventure origins of it, and the adventurous spirit in that movie, absolutely[..]"
This movie sounds like Black Panther and Ironman - they'd be fighting against Chinese-blooded villains. Are Chinese kniwn for being that bad?

In the origanel story flash was not a foot ball player but a olimpic decathlon gold medal winner and that is what he should be in the remake because that is the only athlete that would have the necessary skills to wage a one man war. Other wise you better make him a special forces guy but that horse has been beaten to death.
