Skewered & Roasted Game Review

This Thanksgiving with so many friends and family, I thought it was the perfect time to pull out my latest purchase called Skewered and Roasted for everyone to play. I bought it off of Amazon for $24.99 with $1.60 for shipping and handling - pretty reasonable I think for the 600 cards. It's a pretty hefty box.

The premise is simple enough with one person drawing a black card, called the roastee, who then reads it aloud with some sort of incomplete personal statement and then all players play the white card form their hand of six that best finishes the statement for the roastee. It can get wildly inappropriate with the goal of finding the white card that would be most insulting and most true to the roastee. A vote is taken to determine the winner. It was kind of the anti-Thanksgiving finisher, but after all of that thankfulness, it was truly entertaining to take each other down a notch. It was all in good fun.

We tried a couple of other variants with the roastee choosing the white card or having people paired up by the closeness of their relationship such that the wife had to pick the white card for her husband offering us her thought process. We all laughed so hard. We ended up playing for 2 hours. It definitely added to our Thanksgiving. Highly recommended!

Tom Hiddleston to Star in The Crow Remake

Avengers star Tom Hiddleston is being eyed to topbill Relativity Media' remake of The Crow. After years of being in a slow progress in development, with potential actors like Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper and James McAvoy being considered for the lead role, this is probably it!

Attached to the project is director F. Javier Guttierez. According to The Wrap, Hiddleston “recently had dinner with producers and sent them a makeup test that he did on his own in London.” The report also states that Hiddleston will “undergo a proper makeup test in the coming days.”

We believe Tom Hiddleston would be very perfect for the role. But the idea of remakes isn't really a step-forward to anything in Hollywood. I haven't seen the first movie which starred Brandon Lee who also passed away that time or while filming, but should this remake give justice to the well-loved character of Eric Draven then people, especially cult fans of The Crow, might just give their hearts again for another The Crow movie.

Hop - There's nothing like a live action and CGI crossover that's full of magic and spring time! This is a decent flick that will leave you a good feeling at the end.

Hank and Mike (2008) - This comedy tells the story of two Easter bunnies whose friendship starts to suffer when the multi-national corporation that owns all holidays decides to make some serious cutbacks. The movie was simple, funny and has some good dramatic moments.

Oz the Great and Powerful - Easter had always been magical for children. With games like the Easter Egg hunt and the vivid imagination everyone has you might just end up to Yellow Brick rode ain an adventure. This movie got some dark elements though but there's a good moral in the end.

Soul Surfer - an inspiring movie to start the Easter. This one involves sharks though but even in the moment of tragedy, she manages to hold on to her faith and becomes more adamant on inspiring others.

Alice in Wonderland - You know well how this movie goes! It's fun, imaginative and teaches something in the end.

Ben Hur (1959) - Probably the oldest on this list. This film is a classic! Just watch it.

Rise of the Guardians - Watch this because of the Easter Bunny!

The Passion of the Christ - Probably the heaviest to watch on this list. You may, or may not watch this though. But if it well serve you well, to see the what Jesus Christ did to save us all, then this is worth the watch.

Les Miserables - I'm sure you've seen this! And it won't hurt a bit to watch this on Easter again. After all, this is about fate and faith and love and music.

Much Ado About New Joss Whedon Film 'Much Ado About Nothing'

There's much ado about Nathan Fillion today at Google Plus that we found out about Joss Whedon's newest film after the epic The Avengers and Cabin in the Woods movie. And now there's much ado about this new Joss Whedon film! This time around though Whedon is up for a romantic comedy film based on a play by William Shakespeare. It is entitled 'Much Ado About Nothing' which is about two pairs of lovers with different takes on romance and a way with words.

Being a Whedon fan myself, I think this romcom is going to be a great one. I'm not really a fan of Shakespeare but with Whedon on the director's spotlight I'm giving this a try when it gets released.

The movie is starring Nathan Fillion of course, there's Amy Acker, Alex Denisof, Ashley Johnson, Clark Gregg, Sean Maher, Fran Kranz, Tom Lenk and Riki Lindhome. While completed last year, Much Ado About Nothing movie is set for a June 21st release this year. But it will have a limited theatrical release so others will have to wait for its Bluray release.

Check out the trailer of Much Ado About Nothing!

Prometheus Sequel in the Works

During Prometheus' last few minutes we are not certain if Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and David (Michael Fassbender) will make it back to earth but with Ridley Scott announcing (via Actress Noomi Rapace) that he's currently working on the script for Prometheus' sequel we may want to assume that they didn't and they're still in the scientific vessel Prometheus, probably still lost in space. Although that sounds kind of nice that would be very assuming for us.Hahaha.

Anyway, here's what actress Noomi Rapace said.

They’re working on the script. I met Ridley [Scott] in London a couple of weeks ago. I would love to work with him again and I know that he would like to do another one. It’s just like we need to find the right story. I hope we will.
What do you think of Prometheus 2?  Well, they should start production soon as I can't wait to get more answers to this so 'Alien' prequel. And please more of the engineers. This Dragonball fanatic is reminded of Freeza. Hahaha :-)

Gary Oldman Joins Cast of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Most recently known as Commisioner Gordon in Dark Knight trilogy, actor Gary Oldman is set to join the cast of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Coming Soon confirms. Oldman will team up with Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Kodi Smith-McPhee (Let Me In) in the sequel of 2011's hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes which starred James Franco.

And considering this is a sequel we don't have any news that Franco will return to reprise his role in this film. I just cannot imagine Ceasar (Andy Serkis) returning and leading his pack, herd or whatever they call it without  a conflict tha concerns Ceasar's considered human father.

The connection between Franco's character and Caesar in the first film was so strong not having James Franco in the sequel, which is by the way set 15 years later, would be very disappointing. But anyway, with the film slated for a March 23rd release for next year, there's still lots of time before they'd announce what we've always wanted.

Director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) will sit as director on the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes! Will this have an apocalyptic feel just like that monster movie? Or is he going 'Spielberg-ish' with the inclusion of a young character played by Smith-McPhee? No official plot details for "Dawn" has surfaced just yet. So stay tuned!

"An orphan, Annie, and her dog Sandy are placed in the lap of luxury for a week as a part of a publicity campaign for Oliver Warbucks. However, Annie's stay turns out to be much more than anyone had bargained for as she works her way into everyone’s hearts and learns a few things for herself."

Oscars 2013 Complete List of Winners

While I think this year's Oscars is a bit disappointing in terms of the pace from the previous Oscars. There's no denying that Oscars 2013 is the most prestigious award-giving event and the biggest still. As usual, the red carpet ceremony was anticipated by many to see their favorite stars don trash to highly fashionable outfits. Most buzzed actresses about their dresses are Anne Hathaway in a rather simple Prada outfit, Amy Adams, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lawrence.

The 85th Oscars was hosted by Seth McFarlane (director of TED) who was either trying to become deliberately terrible or just terrible from the start. However, he was able to collect himself and throw some few great jokes in the middle till the end.

Possible Plot for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

A sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes is ahead of us! However Rupert Wyatt will not be in charged to direct the sequel. Instead Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves is attached to the project. So far Jason Clarke and Terry Notary are listed as the credited cast in IMDB together with the return of Andy Serkis who gave life to Caesar.

No official plot has surfaced the internet but a possible plot which is a result of online rumor among fans has been circulating the net. The sequel entitled 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' takes place 15 years after the events in the first film. The story should revolve around a group of human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco. And the it will also shows how the ultra-intelligent ape Caesar (played by Andy Serkis) tries to maintain dominance over his simian kingdom.

When Wyatt was still in charged the plot that was revealed was the one where a virus infected the human race. That plot kind of killed the point of having highly intelligent apes and shifted the genre into an apocalyptic one. This new plot is kinda hard to accept especially that 15 years would mean James Franco might not return for this film which I'm sure everyone kinda hopes he would.

The release date of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set for May 23, 2014.

TV Series: Bates Motel

In order to understand two Hitchcock related projects that will be released this year 'Hitchcock' and 'Bates Motel', I was compelled to watch Psycho (Read our review of Psycho here). And now that I've finally been able to watch the classic movie here's something new to look forward to.

A new series will start March this year under A&E network which is the prequel - or re-imagining - of the classic Bates family in Psycho. Actor Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factor) will play the role of Norman Bates while his possibly demented mother Norma Bates is going to be portrayed by Vera Farmiga (Source Code).

This film intends to give viewers an intimate understanding of how Norman Bates' psyche developed from his childhood through his teen years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first hand how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged Norman, helping forge the most well-known serial killing motel owner in history. Dark Skies Movie (2013)

I honestly don't know how to feel towards Dark Skies but the teaser posters helps a lot into making me give it a try. I was never really a fan of alien horror in fact I've never got the chance to watch Aliens yet. But anyway, thinking that this horror thriller Dark Skies is backed by the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious, this should be fun.

 Plot:
“As the Barret family’s peaceful suburban life is rocked by an escalating series of disturbing events, they come to learn that a terrifying and deadly force is after them.”

Dark Skies is directed by Scott Charles Stewart ( Priest ). In theaters today! Feb. 22, 2013.

Zombies Vs Robots Movie

We really have know idea how this would work but with the zombie genre being pushed by The Walking Dead and the upcoming Zombieland series there may be a future for a futuristic approach to the zombie genre.

When the world is plagued with zombies robots are there to protect the world's last human, an infant girl. The movie is based from the comic book of the same title by Chris Ryall and illustrator Ashley Wood.

Transformers director Michael Bay is attached to the project through his film outfit 'Platinum' but as a producer. I wouldn't want him to direct this anyway but I'm sure he can provide some good futuristic visualizations on the film. If Zombies Vs Robots movie pushes I think it's gonna be worth a try, just like, Warm Bodies or we never know this could rank as the best movies of all time.

Just try to imagine a group of Wall-E's protecting Boo (Monsters Inc) from zombies!
